What was the very first seed for inspiration for the series?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. The movie with Keira Knightly and Matthew MacFadyen combined with a re-read of the novel made me want to write my own epic romance. In that sense, Tom definitely started as Mr. Darcy and Lillie as Elizabeth Bennet. The book took on a life of its own after that, with other influences including The Matrix and Sex and the City.
